Junkyard — 1985

My interest in photography started back in high school when I liberated the family’s 35mm camera, loaded it with black and white film and started shooting. For several years I roamed cemeteries, junkyards and beaches fascinated by contrast and perspective.

When I moved to San Francisco a few years later to pursue music I put the cameras aside in favor of my guitar. Playing music changed my perception of imagery. For one thing working with video opened my eyes to color.

Years later I stopped playing in a band and moved back to Northern California. Without music I soon realized I was missing a creative pursuit. I returned to photography at that time.

I purchased my first DSLR in 2003 and have been shooting digital in earnest ever since.

In fact, I feel pretty much naked if I don’t have my camera with me. I shoot everything and it is the things I am yet to photograph i find interest me most.

My other great love is writing. As I like to say, I enjoy taking pictures and writing about the experience. This in my blog and we’ll see where it all goes . . .
